Loreto College Swords has a long tradition of debating.
Each year 2nd year students compete in the Junior Loreto Debates. The first round of this competition is organised on a regional basis and so, each year, 2nd year students from our school, have the opportunity to debate against, and bond with, Loreto Balbriggan and Loreto Navan.
5th year students in the school also have the opportunity to participate in the Senior Loreto Debates. The senior Loreto Debating competition is a one day event where Loreto students from all over the country come together to debate against each other.
Debating offers a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their confidence, their ability to stand up and speak out publicly in front of an audience, and also to become aware of, and form opinions about what is going on in the world around them.
Debating also enables them to meet students from other Loreto schools and to make friends.
Public Speaking
Not only do 2nd and 5th year students have the opportunity to participate in the Loreto Debates, they also have the opportunity to participate in the Loreto Public Speaking Competitions.
Senior students also have the opportunity to participate in the Mental Health Public Speaking competition each year.
