Mary Ward Week
25 January – 29 January 2016
Mary Ward – foundress of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary was born 23rd Jan 1585 and died 30th Jan 1645. It is due to Mary Ward that Loreto College, Swords is here today.
She is recognised as one of the most original and interesting women of the seventeenth century.
She struggled, in spite of fierce opposition, to further the position of women in society through education mainly.
She founded, again in spite of fierce opposition, a new sort of international religious community. In Loreto College, Swords we are celebrating Mary Ward Week in tandem with Catholic Schools Week this week beginning Monday, 25 January. Thanks to the students who put together art work around the school in celebration of Mary Ward – click here for photos
